Gastrointestinal Pathology

The Gastrointestinal, Liver and Pancreatobiliary Pathology Service provides cutting-edge diagnostic services and specialized testing for a high volume of luminal gastrointestinal, pancreatic and liver biopsies and complex surgical resection specimens.
Our division works closely with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Gastrointestinal Site Disease Group, the Center for Liver Diseases, the Crohn’s and Colitis Center, the Center for Digestive Disorders and the Liver and Gastrointestinal (multivisceral) Transplantation at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital. Our department also serves as a teaching hub for the gastrointestinal / hepatology fellows, surgery residents and international observers / visitors.

Diagnosis, Laboratory Testing and Consultation Service

The Gastrointestinal Pathology Service evaluates approximately 10,000 in-house and national and international consultation cases per year from a wide variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions. We also perform specialized laboratory testing in Her2-neu by IHC and FISH, viral IHC, DNA mismatch repair proteins by IHC, MSI by PCR, Ckit IHC, lymphoma work up, EGFR mutation, KRAS mutation and BRAF mutation analysis for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal diseases.
