Miller School Launches Pioneering Program for First-Year Residents

In a single week last August in New York City, two first-year residents, in different programs and in separate incidents, jumped to their deaths. What could have happened, just three months after their triumphant graduation from medical school, that would have made them want to take their lives? We may never know, but a likely contributing factor is a syndrome called burnout.

Dr. Laura Barisoni Elected to Board of Renal Pathology Society

Laura Barisoni, M.D., professor of pathology and Division Chief of the Renal Pathology Service, has been elected Councilor — a board of directors title — of the Renal Pathology Society. She was nominated for the position by three of her peers. Her four-year appointment will culminate in her becoming President of the Society in 2019.
