Dr. Carmen Gomez-Fernandez: Awarded George Paff Award

Our Chair, Dr. Merce Jorda, would like to share excellent news about our Pathology Vice Chair of Education, Dr. Carmen Gomez- Fernandez.

Dear Colleagues and Friends:

Our own Dr. Carmen Gomez has been again selected by the MD Class of 2023 to win a George Paff Award for teaching excellence for the academic year 2019-2020.

The George Paff Teaching Awards honor those faculty and staff members who go above and beyond their responsibilities to deliver the highest quality of education and mentorship.

Despite all the hardships and extra challenges this year has brought, the dedication, passion, and hard work of Carmen has not gone unnoticed. Here are some quotes from her students:

  • “Dr. Gomez made pathology so easy to understand and her upbeat lectures made you want to pay attention. She definitely is the key to the great pathology course.”
  • “Dr. Gomez loves pathology. I can still hear her voice when I look at pathology slides. Her excitement made me think about becoming a pathologist (something I never considered).”
  • “Dr. Gomez is one of the most fun and engaging lecturers I’ve ever had. I personally struggled very much with understanding pathology and histology, but she explained it in a way that made everything so much clearer. She was always very happy to answers my many questions, and you could tell that she always was concerned about doing what was best for us to help us succeed.

Our deepest thanks and congratulations to Dr. Carmen Gomez-Fernandez on behalf of our department!
