Head and Neck Pathology

The head and neck pathology service at the University of Miami is driven by one of the nation's top departments of Otolaryngology.  Dr. Carmen Gomez-Fernandez oversees the head and neck pathology service and collaborates with highly skilled surgeons working at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Jackson Memorial Hospital.   The high volume of diagnostic and therapeutic biopsies include sinonasal, nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, salivary gland, thyroid, and neck nodal disease, among others.  Patients are presented and therapeutic interventions are discussed at the weekly Head and Neck Tumor Board by the Head and Neck Site Disease Group, including surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, and oncologists.  Close collaboration between the head and neck surgeons and pathologists results in quality patient care, education, and translational research.
