The Division of Anatomic Pathology is responsible for the examination and interpretation of anatomical specimens, consisting of solid tissue and body fluids.
The Department provides expertise and interpretations by pathologists with specific expertise in the various specimen types and is assigned to one of the following subspecialties for examination and diagnosis.
The Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for quantitative and qualitative analysis and interpretation of patient specimens, including tissue, blood, urine, and other body fluids. The mission of the Division of Comparative Pathology is six fold: to provide infrastructure support via animal diagnostic services to the University of Miami; to support university investigators using animal models of disease; to provide a venue for graduate and undergraduate student training; to perform research on animal models of disease; to provide routine and specialized reference services to other academic institutions, non-profit wildlife research facilities, government agencies, zoological institutions and veterinarians in private practice; and to design and conduct novel research making use of the unique specimens which are obtained by the laboratory to further the fields of avian and wildlife medicine.
