Stem Cell Processing
The Stem Cell Processing Laboratory has 14 years of experience in supporting the Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Transplant Program, as well as serving as a reference laboratory to other institutions. S. Shariatmadar MD, the Director of the Stem Cell Processing Laboratory, is board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. The laboratory staff performs processing and cryopreservation of allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic progenitor cells-apheresis and marrow, therapeutic cells-T cells and thawing of hematopoietic progenitor cells-cord blood.
The Stem Cell Processing Laboratory is accredited by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). The laboratory is registered with the FDA per 21CFR 1271 and ensures compliance with the FDA current good tissue practices. Research interests include characterization of stem cells and development of novel stem cell products. Preliminary studies are under way to assess bone marrow stem cells in cardiac and peripheral vascular disease.
