Renal Pathology
Pathology is a well recognized section of the Department of Pathology at the University of Miami that processes biopsies referred by clinicians from the UM/JMH complex and outside referring medical centers and practices. We provide diagnosis of glomerular, tubulointerstitial, and vascular medical renal diseases. Renal Pathology is a specialized referral division with highly competent technical support and specialized methodologies including light microscopy (LM), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and transmission electron microscopy (EM). Test results and diagnoses are provided quickly, usually within 24 hours based on histology and immunohistology. The final report with EM is provided shortly thereafter.
We also provide electron microscopy diagnosis of ciliary abnormalities, metabolic disorders, and tumor diagnosis. If requested, digital LM, IF or EM images, microscopic slides or EM prints of the cases can be provided to the referring pathologist or clinician. We also provide consultation of digital images sent to our office. Dr. Ruiz oversees the service and is nationally recognized in renal pathology, transplantation pathology and immunopathology.
Please visit our listing of available tests.
There is a team of pathologists specialized in renal pathology at the University of Miami. All of them are certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.
