Residency/Fellowship Programs

It is through the residency training program that the department extends its presence beyond the boundaries of the medical center.  From its inception, the department has been committed to the training of qualified pathologists.  These men and women are located not only in South Florida but in other parts of this country and the world.  Regardless of geographical location, these pathologists, like the department, are dedicated to provide patient care, teaching and research wherever they are.

Since 1953, the department has been training residents, the majority of whom have received training qualifying them both as Anatomic and Clinical Pathologists.  Today, many are director of laboratories or staff pathologists in community hospitals.  Some of our former residents serve on faculties in the department of pathology of medical schools in this country and abroad.  In addition, they also provide leadership in many local, national and international medical and pathology societies.

The scope and approach of our residency training has changed through the years.  In addition, the number of residents in training in any given academic year has increased.  Nevertheless, the department has remained steadfast in its primary goal, that is, to train pathologists who will practice the specialty effectively, no matter where or when!
