Medical Students

Dear Medical Students,

Welcome to the Department of Pathology. The elective in Pathology is intended to generate interest in those students who have never been exposed to the practice of Pathology, and/or solidify a commitment to the profession in those who are interested in pursuing post-graduate training in a Pathology residency training program.   It is our intention to make this educational program one of the most valuable, exciting, and rewarding experiences during your enrollment in medical school.

In the following pages you will find the materials and information necessary for your Pathology rotations. The elective in Pathology may be taken as a two or four week rotation.  The elective is structured around one-week blocks in any one of the following disciplines: Surgical Pathology, Hematopathology, Microbiology, Immunopathology, Cytopathology, Transfusion Medicine, Autopsy Pathology and Clinical Chemistry.    Students should contact the Pathology clerkship coordinator, Ms. Yanira Blanco at 305-585-2544 with their desired rotations prior to the beginning of the elective, as these will be assigned on a “first come, first serve” basis and space may be limited.  The students are evaluated by each attending from the chosen discipline.   We trust that this educational program in Pathology prepares you well for the practice of medicine.

Respectfully,

Carmen R. Gomez-Fernandez, M.D.
